swimming lessons
The last time I swam before my swim lessons at the YMCA started was sometime in 1993 when, during my Graduate program , I audited a PE101 Swim class. Auditing a PE course does not make much sense does it, But I did it and I did not have to take the final exam. Anyways, I have been training to take part in a Triathlon. (Just do not ask me which one) or atleast train as if I would participate in a Triathlon. I could do the running and the biking, but my swimming was - "I can swim like a rock".
I enrolled myself, Padma, Chitra and Pallavi in swimming classes. It was going to be a group effort. Now the classes are ended. Padma and I have sort of graduated from our classes. I was promoted in the middle of my session to go and train with the advanced/intermediate swimmers. Now these swimmers were supposedly better than beginners but thank god! they were not (I would have felt horrible and inadequate if that were not the case).
Through out my swim class, I have had a hard time getting the breathing right. breather out through the nose under water, twist your head and breathe in through your mouth without gulping down the swimming pool. All the time kicking and paddling. I think I need to practice more. I had 4 1/2 months during my grad program class to get this right and I had to do it in 6 classes at the YMCA swim class.
It is quite liberating this swimming. So for now I will use fins, and a paddle board to get my kicking in order and then get down to breathing. I have re-enrolled the whole group in swimming classes. lets see what progress we make.
Chitra likes her swimming quite a bit. she has graduated from a Pike (I) to a Pike (II). Her instructor said that she could even go up to an EEL (I) if I wanted to push her into learning more and faster. Pallavi missed 4 of her classes and so she has been enrolled in the same class again (Sea Lion (I)). Padma has herself wait listed for the next beginners class.
thats it for this posting .. more on our swim lessons later
