Veggie garden and urban plant farming

ok.. The Memorial day weekend was an exquisite weekend to be outside and do stuff outdoors. and I did just that. I spent a whole lot of time cleaning up the yard. and then I got to planting.
I had help from chitra and pallavi. Chitra was too busy occupied finding "wormins" Pallavi did not want to walk on the grass. But they were helpful by not really helping me :)

So i went about ceating a rough "floor" plan for the veggies as I had plans for growing a lot of them.
I planted a few stakes at either end of the patch of ground, tied string going east west in rows, labelled each row and planted seeds in those rows.
I eneded up planting  Okra, Eggplant, Squash(yellow), Sweet Bell Peppers(Orange and Yellow), Hot peppers, Tomatoes, Cucumber(I think), Carrots, beans, and mint. I already had one corner of the patch covered up with strawberry (from last year).   Then I went to work on a seperate patch of ground and I planted 5 rows of corn (hope they come out).

I also ended up identifying a "tree" growing n one corner of my yard. Itwas a buckthorn tree (apparently its been banned in the state of Minnesota for its very aggresive nature). I chopped it down and applied roundup to the stump to kill it. In a couple of weeks I thinki will plant a Mount Royal Dwarf Plum tree (it is self fertile tree and hence does not require a pair of them to actually produce fruit).

All in all a very productive weekend. and a very tiring weekend. (as we as a family spent about a couple of hours in the swimming pool on saturday at the YMCA).  Also on saturday, the one day we are early for soccer camp, there was no soccer camp :) *Bummer*.....
